Post by SceaduPost by k***@gmail.comAre there any automated grammar checkers for Japanese? I want
something similar to the English grammar checker that comes with MS
Word (tools-> check grammar and spelling)
If there is, I'm sure it's so terrible as to be unusable. Think about
how bad machine translations of Japanese are.
That doe snot follow.
Machine translations of Japanese (to English say) are bad because
computers don't understand English, not just because they don't
understand Japanese.
There is /a priori/ no reason to believe that automated Japanese grammar
checkers will be any worse (or any better, of course) than automated
English grammar checkers.
Incidently Adobe FrameMaker has a Japanese grammar checker so I'm sure
some other programs must have.
Well, I guess I was thinking in terms of parsing sentences into phrases and
clauses and compounds into "words." I'm wondering what aspects of the
grammar can actually be checked, since fragments and other ambiguous
features are permissible in Japanese... proper okurigana? Na vs. no? Verb
conjugation? You could catch those problems manually when they fail to
convert properly in the IME...
